Nurses Week: celebrating nurses and midwives

It takes a strong, smart, caring person to face the illnesses of our community – to care for a person when they are at their weakest. This is just one of the reasons we love our nurses. Each May, Foundations and Hospitals across Canada take a week to celebrate our nurses.

Nurses Week is an international celebration. In Canada, our National Nursing Week happens Monday to the Sunday of Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12. This week is all about gratitude. It is a time to say ‘thank you,’ it’s about “…highlighting the enormous sacrifices and contributions of nurses and midwives,” elaborates Tedros Adhanom Chebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization (Canadian Nurses Association, 2020).

Be a part of it! Give thanks by doing a kind deed for a nurse in your life. Or donate today to the Striving for Nursing Excellence Bursary. It is a special Bursary that local nursing students or practicing nurses can apply to either help them to complete their education or for upgrading. The benefits of your donation last a lifetime.
