Improving Northern
Cardiac Care

Did you know that between 2022 and 2024, northern Alberta has seen a 24% increase in heart attacks? It can happen to any one of us at any time – and when it does, every minute counts. There is only one clear way to reduce the number of emergencies and prioritize better outcomes: more education, prevention, and intervention options, located right here at home.

Stopping Heart Attacks
Before They Happen

Currently, northern Alberta does not have the necessary equipment to provide local treatment for heart attacks. We are dependent on transporting patients to facilities in Edmonton and Calgary, which takes hours when there is not a moment to spare. We envision a future with more capability to identify and prevent these conditions – reducing the risk of heart attack by up to 30% across northern Alberta. This will be a multi-pronged approach that requires better equipment, facilities, programs, and services.

Raising Awareness Before Funds

By 2032, your Foundation is hoping to significantly revamp cardiac care across northern Alberta, and we have already secured an initial $2M donation from the Sargent Family to begin this work. But first, we want to ensure everyone knows about this critical need in Alberta’s north. So, rather than ask for donations at the moment, we are asking you to write to your local MLA to remind them of the lack of local cardiac care and the necessity of the government’s support.

Download any of these a pre-written letters that you can sign and mail. It is simple, it is effective – and it will not cost you more than a postage stamp.

The Cath Lab

One of the main goals for the region is to open a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, a specialized medical facility within a hospital focused on cardiac issues. This lab will greatly assist with better preventative diagnostics, cardiac interventions, and local specialist treatment of common issues.

We Cannot Afford to Wait

It is ambitious – but if we all donate, we all benefit.
