AZTEC Engineering Inc.: They shoot! They score!

“As active members of this community, we wanted to create an event for the whole family to enjoy,” explains Jason Kolosky, President of Aztec Engineering.

A charity ball hockey tournament is no small feat! Each June, 27 teams come together in the parking lot of the Aztec building to participate. Staff at Aztec set up five hockey “rinks,” free activities for kids, a dunk tank, food trucks, music and beer gardens: it’s serious – serious fun, competition and community building. Our Hospital Foundation could not be prouder to be part of it!

“The community response has been more than we could have hoped for. It has been a win-win,” says Kolosky. “Our staff work hard for weeks to put on a great event and we have been able to raise money for local charities. With such great interest, we sell out of team entries and sponsor items within days. It just keeps getting better – can’t wait to see who gets the dunk tank this year!”

It all started with a dream of bringing the fun of ball hockey to Grande Prairie, and with Aztec’s drive to building meaningful connections, a tournament for the greater good was a natural result! In 2017, Aztec Engineering launched its first annual ball hockey tournament in support of the Hospital Foundation. Since 2007, the company has been a long-time supporter through donations to our annual Festival of Trees and 2Day FM’s Father Daughter Ball (another community event). Their drive to improve healthcare in our region is truly inspiring.

Grateful doesn’t start to explain how we feel about the staff at Aztec, thank you for believing the hospitals in our region matter!  In the past, monies raised by Aztec’s tournament have gone to The Key to Care Capital Campaign for Key Equipment for Life Legacy Fund.
